I’ve always really liked this picture I took of Jilly. It was part of an assignment for my portrait finals. Somehow, everything in the image smoothly falls into place. It shows her exactly the way I know her: strong-willed, in-a-good-way classy, not to be bullshitted with — but always with the start of a smile right there on her lips.

Katrien was/is a friend of an ex of a friend of mine. The ex was not yet an ex when she came to the studio at school to model for an assignment of mine, and Katrien hopped along and I shot her as well that day. Crazy kid she was, very pretty smile she had. Would love to shoot her again now that I suck a little less than I did then.

We (Fries, Thalia and myself) decided to, instead of doing the same old stuff we had to do for our assignments, have a little fun in the school studios that day and it was so much fun. After the break for the Holidays we’d all gotten pretty burnt out from the overload of technical assignments, and doing some stuff just for shits and giggles was exactly what I needed to put my mind back into the game.

We shot this one as well that day, which was (and is) one of the first pictures I took in school that actually made me like shooting in a studio.

What can I say? I’m a sucker for pretty colors yo!
